The story of Particle4X began in Dr. Jiarong Hong’s laboratory at the University of Minnesota, where 13 years of research culminated in over 50 publications and a robust IP portfolio. Founded in 2020 with Dr. Lei Feng, and formally launching full operations in 2025, Particle4X is dedicated to transforming how the world analyzes particles using AI-powered computational imaging.

Our instruments are highly customizable and can be engineered to measure particles ranging from approximately 100 nanometers up to the centimeter scale, depending on your specific application. We tailor our solutions to your exact requirements for size range and concentration across a variety of operating mediums, including gases, liquids, and optically transparent solids.

Traditional microscopic imaging methods have a very narrow depth of field and require particles to be perfectly in focus. Particle4X utilizes coherent light holography, which provides a significantly larger depth of field. This allows us to image microparticles across a large volumetric space without the need to physically focus on individual particles. Furthermore, our technology captures changes in the optical refractive index alongside standard morphological data. Our proprietary AI integrates all these features (morphological, optical, etc.) to achieve a much higher specificity in particle identification than conventional microscopy.

We design and manufacture particle measurement solutions across a wide range of sizes and form factors, entirely dependent on your application. Our systems are highly scalable, ranging from ultra-compact, lightweight sensors designed for UAV (drone) deployment, to ruggedized field measurement stations, all the way up to high-precision benchtop instruments for cleanroom and laboratory environments.
